My CV
-
Education:
I went to Bishop Wand Secondary School in Sunbury where I took my GCSE’s and then onto Strode’s College, Egham for my sixth form education.
I chose to go to the University of Nottingham for my undergraduate degree and then went to work at the University of Warwick after a gap year. Three years later, I went onto do a PhD at the University of warwick after being encouraged to by colleagues, and because I was loving the work I was doing. -
Qualifications:
I have 11 GCSE’s A*-B including my choice subjects of PE, Food Tech and History. At my school, French and RS were compulsory so I took these alongside English, Maths and Science.
My A Levels were in Biology, Environmental Science and Chemistry, and I took AS Levels in PE and Maths. I needed 2 sciences to get into university for the course I wanted, but fortunately not maths, as I did really badly in the AS!
I have BSc in Plant Science, which is the subject I really wanted to study, so chose to specialise straightaway, rather than take biology and specialise later.
I had a break from education for a few years, and then studied again, to earn a PhD in Plant and Environmental Sciences. The project was working on rocket, the salad leaf, so for 4 years I was a rocket scientist! -
Current Job:
Research Fellow in Useful Plants

I currently live in West Sussex and moved here for work. I live in a house share with 5 other people which is fun. I enjoy exercising and long walks in the countryside. I love chocolate and my favourite is Cadburys Whole Nut. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, so lockdown has been hard as I am far away from many of them, but love catching up with them online. I am a Christian and involved with several youthwork activities in my local town, and really enjoy engaging with young people.

My Typical Day:
My working day is usually 8:30am-5pm but I don’t often have a typical day! I work on a whole project, from start to finish, so the type of work I do varies each week and each month. Some days will be spent at the desk, writing reports or analysing results, but the more fun days are those I am doing experiments in the lab or working with the plants we are studying in the greenhouse!
