I am a Senior Design Engineer within the Dairy, Food and Beverage industry. This means that I develop designs for the processes and equipment used to manufacture a wide variety of food and drinks such as cheddar cheese, chocolate, digestive biscuits, milk, soups, soft drinks and many more.
The best bit about my job is that no two products are the same and customers are always looking for ways to improve their processes. This means no two days are the same for me and I get a huge variety of projects which allow me to seek out innovation within the design solutions.
I’m currently working on a CIP (clean-in-place) system for a large cheese manufacturer. A CIP system is used to ensure all the food manufacturing equipment is cleaned at the end of the day and ready to make new product s tomorrow. In completing the design we have to ensure food safety standards will be adhered to and look for ways to maximise the energy efficiency of the plant to minimise it’s carbon footprint.

My Typical Day:
As a manager of a team my day typically involves starting with a team meeting to check in with my team on progress and any issues they may have.
I then assist with development of solutions to our customers requirements, this can involve completing calculations, generating conceptual drawings and generating 3D models.
In the evening, to unwind you’ll usually find me playing on my Xbox.
