They can help to maintain a healthy gut and prevent constipation and other digestion problems. A diet high in fibre can also reduce your risk of bowel cancer. Fruit and vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C and potassium. They can help to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

There are a variety of benefits from different fruit and veg, we find different benefits from each and so varied diet is typically recommended. We need nutrients from fruit and veg to maintain a healthy body whilst vitamins are some of the important nutrients. For example, strawberries have lots of vitamin C whilst carrots have lots of vitamin A. Bananas are a source of fibre.

Vitamin C, for example, is an essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue whilst Vitamin A helps your body’s natural defence against illness. Understanding and improving food is an ongoing area of research, in recent years we have looked at Broccoli and looked to develop new varieties with more nutrients.
