This is a great question! The Earth is surrounded by an atmosphere of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide. Light from the sun is actually made of a spectrum of different colours (think of a rainbow!). As this light passes through the atmosphere, blue light is absorbed by gas molecules and scattered in all directions. This is why we see a blue colour
