I work in large office in Milton Keynes where I have a development kitchen for meetings with suppliers. Our team has lots of different skills including experts in coffee, food safety and business.
I’m responsible for understanding what our customers want to buy as well as making sure what we sell is safe and the best quality.
-
My Typical Day:
I have breakfast together with my son at 6.30 which is usually cereal or toast and some fruit with a coffee. I take Riley to nursery at 7.30am and drive to work or head to the train station to go to a food factory or store where I spend the day tasting and measuring food to decide what we sell in our shops.

8.45 – 9.15am: When I get to work I usually spend a few minutes running through the key tasks for the day and checking my emails.
9.15 – 11am: I have a few meetings with my team and suppliers.
11-12.30pm: We have a team meeting with everyone in the team.
12.30-1pm: I will usually go for a walk or run and have lunch of fruit, roasted nuts from the morning and a rice salad with salmon.
1pm-4.45pm: I spend time testing food products to make sure they have been made correctly or look at new products to sell in our shops.
4.45pm: I either leave work to drive home or start to cook dinner.
6pm: I pick my son up from nursery and we spend the evening together before heading to bed at 11/11.45pm
A typical day for a factory visit looks totally different and I will be up and out of the house by 6am to head to the factory which could be anywhere in the country (or abroad). The products we sell are made all over Europe including Cornwall, Glasgow, North France and Utrecht in the Netherlands. I would spend time looking to see the products are made safely as well as tasting them and seeing they are the kinds of products our customers will buy.
Sometimes we spend time looking for new ideas of what to sell. On a day when we do this we would spend the day eating and drinks new foods and drinks as well as writing key details such as how much they weigh, what they smell like, what they look like and what they taste like.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d use it to pay for students to visit a factory to see how some of their favourite foods are made. We could go to the sausage roll factory, or the croissant factory or the factory where they make our tasty muffins and chocolate brownies.
